Our class is going to the Landfill next Friday, June 5th, 2015 and Sports Day is June 17th, 2015.  We have been studying "The Wizard of Oz". We are learning and doing "setting maps", and drawing Wizard of Oz pictures and writing about the story. They are trimming the tree's in our field so we can find all the missing balls. It was May Days last weekend and most of us had a great time. The Parade was awesome!

                                                                                                                           May 14th, 2015

This has been an exciting week! Our classroom geckos are mating and we think Gold Dust is getting ready to lay more eggs. She has buried herself in the soil and Black Dust is waiting and watching! We are still waiting to hear if the other 2 eggs have hatched. They are in an incubator at Josie's house.

In Math this week we learned about "Division". Sanjiya thinks its exciting and Jude feels good about it.  In Language Arts we learned about digraphs, consonant blends and double consonants. So much learning... The class is working on a power point presentation, on our choice of animals.
Our classroom vegetable this week was the "cucumber"! They were awesome, two thumbs up!
We had the "Spring" Sprint yesterday at lunch. It was hot, fun and tiring! The whole school got to listen to an author named "Shar Levine " on Tuesday. She spoke about Science! On Monday someone came in from Delta Gymnastics (Kids Can Move) and she spent a 1/2 hour with each class teaching us gymnastics. We will be doing that for a few weeks.

Tomorrow is a professional day so no school! Yay! and Monday is a holiday. So we will have a nice 4 day weekend in the sunshine.

Katie and Riya's Class Blog April 24

Katie

We have been doing totem pole drawings.  We also are learning how to do cool designs on them.  We got the ideas from aboriginal art.  Playing California Kickball, rock paper scissors run and baseball are some of the funs things our class did.  I really liked when we did the totem poles because I found a nice of a raven, it was cool.   Our class Gecko Goldie laid 2 eggs and Josie found them under their log.  They were very white, beautiful and measured 2 cm long.  We could see when she was ready to have eggs because she looked lumpy on her tummy.  The fish hatchery was a fun field trip.  We released our own fry in the Little Campbell River.  I named my fry Hope because I wanted him to make it the ocean safely.

Riya

At Gym we played  King and Queen Dodge ball.  Some of our class played baseball outside at recess and I got to be a batter!   My favourite class jobs this week were taking care of the Geckos and Recycling.  We had Canucks Day and Earth Day.  The Canucks won!  I wore a T-shirt for Earth Day and  my pink Canucks shirt on Canucks Day.  We learned about how to take of the earth by not overeating or wasting food.  We don’t want to make so much garbage and waste on our planet.  The Gr. 3-7 are going to the play “Alladin”  some from our class are going.

                                                                                                                              March 5th, 2015

This week we are finished with our Salmon project. Mr. Mitchell came and got the Salmon and took them to the Little Campbell Hatchery.  Gold-dust laid eggs last week, but they got squashed by the log or stepped on by Black-dust. The boy one that sits in the log all the time! Black-dust is very shy and hides all the time except at night time.  Gecko's are generally nocturnal. Tomorrow we are going to Science World!!!! we are so excited. We get to go on the bus with Mrs. Tan's class too. We get to see a movie about bugs, we are going the exhibits, and hopefully have enough time to see everything.  We are making models of Dragons this week to celebrate Chinese New Years.  We went on a walk on Kelly Drive and saw so many signs of Springs! We saw bee's, ladybugs, daffodil's, tulips, cherry blossoms, and leaves. However we didn't see any pets. We got to go outside all week for recess and lunch, no indoor days!

Tavish & Katie's Blog for February 27th, 2015

                                                                                                                   February 27th, 2015

This week our Gecko's laid 2 eggs, however they were not buried deep enough and dried up.  :(
We decided as a class not to take the geckos out of their cage this week because they are breeding. :)
Black-dust is out and about and not hiding these days. However Gold-dust is being herself!
Both Golddust and Blackdust seem to be protective of the eggs.  We hope that Golddust lays more eggs before Spring Break.

This week has been  "Kindness" Week! We have had a lot of kindness in our class and school, sharing, offering friendship, and doing good deeds. On Monday we had 71 acts of Kindness,
on Tuesday we had 176 acts of Kindness, on Wednesday 181 acts of Kindness, and Thursday we had 194 acts of Kindness for a total of 551 ! Wow! How many will we get on Friday??
This week our class made giant heart's for Mr. Umali with a kindness thought like "we will pick our garbage off the floor ", "We promise to put our gym stuff in our gym bags", and "we promise to stack stools on the round table". These are a few examples that our class left out for Mr. Umali.

This week the Salmon are swimming up to feed more. They are getting bigger and bigger every week. Our class is going to the Little Campbell Hatchery before Spring Date to release our Salmon. This will be a fun fieldtrip. :)

Our class is learning our timetables, so an example is 2x2=4 or 5x5=25 or even 2x4=8!
Mrs. Mitchell read us Charlotte's Web and The Quilt. Both were terrific!!!

On Monday we had an assembly on "Kindness". We are trying to be kind all week to everyone. On our Kindness tree so far we have 357 acts of kindness & its only Thursday! We had a live band that played Rumba music too!  In class this week we did a chemical experiment with the salmon's water. The water changes color when we did the experiment. It was interesting & awesome! We are planning our field trip to Science World and are very excited. The class is helping Mr. Umali clean the recycling, with promises of keeping it clean and organized. On the computers we are researching our animals. Kaila's animal is a horse and Christopher's is a Inland Taipan snake! It is fun!
We are learning to bounce a basketball while looking up in PE. We are also hoping our class pet Gecko's will lay some eggs soon. We are learning the 'times' table in Math. For Kindness week we got to use chalk to write nice/kind messages on the playground! Well that's all for now!

Kaida & Tessa"s Blog February 19th 2015

February 19th, 2015

This week we learned more about the Salmon. We learned about the Salmon's fins!
How they are swimming higher and higher in the tank. We are feeding them food so they are swimming to the top of the tank. This afternoon we are going to an assembly.  Yesterday we had a test on the map of Canada. It was hard! The Grade 3's had to do the Provinces and the Capitals and the Grade 2's had to do just the Provinces and the Territories. We finished our presentations. Yay!! We learned how to do "times" in Math. We also got to play with the Gecko's. Just Gold-dust came out to visit. Black-dust is very shy! We are learning how to play basketball in Gym this week. Today is also  Hot lunch day! Pizza!!! We had a substitute teacher this week, her name is Mrs Arding.  We have something called "Cafe" which means 'reading' ,yay! Next week is 'Kindness Week' and we are wearing Pink on Wednesday. We are doing our spelling test today. We hope we get it all right! We get to play 'Sparkle" today. In "buddies" yesterday we had to look for a book on 'kindness'. We also choose new buddies! Class Presentations

We started class presentations this week. Charlie's group went first. Adrian, Kamoryn and Sanjiya were also in Charlie's group. They presented "insects." Insects are arthropods which means they don't have an inside skeleton. A praying mantis is an arthropod.  Josie, Jamie, Riya, Logan and Alex were the second group presenting. They presented "amphibians." In the first stage, amphibians live their lives in the water with gills and tails. For the second stage, they have legs and lungs and live on the land. A mud puppy is an example of an amphibian. They're weird... They look like a fish and they can bark like a dog!

Our playgrounds were very muddy this week but we were still able to play outside on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

More Animalia!

Jan 29, 2015

We are researching animals. We are learning about where they live. We are learning about cold blooded and warm blooded animals. Insects are cold blooded. Did you know a gargoyle gecko's tail can grow back if it loses it, but all other gecko's tails do not. A sea horse is a fish not a mammal. Male sea horses get the eggs from the female and puts them in his pouch until they grow. Wolves are warm blooded animals. They can live in forests, on mountains and in the desert. They make their dens down in the ground. Also, did you know that a full grown wolf can jump higher than a one storey building?

Animal Week

                                                                                                                   January 12 thru 16, 2015

This week we learned about reptiles and amphibians. Reptiles lay soft shell eggs. Reptiles are also cold blooded. Amphibians have 2 lives, one in the water and one on the land. Turtles are reptiles. Frogs are amphibians. Our class made posters of Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds, Arthropods and Mammals. We glued on pictures. Our groups each wrote a paragraph about their poster.

We also learned about Salmon. Alevins are the second stage of the salmon life cycle. Alevins have a yolk sack! All our eggs hatched. Once the Alevin finish their yolk sac they turn into Fry. Fry eat their own food, they no longer have their yolk sac.

Next week we get to feed and water the geckos. We're very excited. Josie feeds the geckos, crickets. We water and feed them Gecko food. We think Tavish brought his new pet gecko to class on Monday. His name is Tim Bit! Tim Bit walked on our carpet.

Our school went on the Polar Bear run and we wore our funny hats and crazy hair too!

Animals Rule!

Jan 9, 2015

We are learning about animals this week. There are seven groups of animals. They are fish, birds, reptiles, mammals, insects, amphibians and arachnids. We are making posters of those animals. The reptile group lays eggs and has scales. Reptiles are fast and very quiet. Geckos, lizards and chameleons are reptiles. The mammals give birth to their babies. Mammals have skin or fur. Mammals drink their mom's milk. People, dolphins, hamsters are mammals.   Most birds can fly but penguins, ostriches can not fly. Birds lay eggs. Eagles, puffins, hummingbirds, ducks are types of birds. Insects have six legs, lay eggs. Horseflies, dragonflies and butterflies are insects.
